To all the panelists, representatives, volunteers, performers, and committee members, maraming salamat for an incredible evening and an epic initiative.

The first State of the Filipino Union forum was a resounding success full of smiles, laughs, tears and cheer. As we broke down the communication barrier amongst generations and Filipino demographics, we look forward to building and strengthening the bridge that was built and solidified last thursday, February 26th, 2009.

The State of the Filipino Union [OPEN FORUM]

Thursday, February 26^t^h 2009. 6PM – 10PM

William Doo Audtorium, 45 Willcocks St (Willcocks & Spadina)

University of Toronto, Downtown.

The State of the Filipino Union (SOFU) Forum will be a one evening event, in which influential representatives from the Filipino community in and around the Toronto/GTA will come together and discuss the current state of Philippine descendants and residents in Ontario.

Held during the University of Toronto’s “Filipino Awareness Week”, it will be a non-partisan forum uniting (for one night) all those who wish to be united. It will hope to address the key issues prevalent and relevant to all Filipinos in Ontario today. Organized principally by the younger generation of Filipinos in Toronto, it looks to touch on topics just as relevant to young Filipinos as anyone else. SOFU ultimately hopes to foster communication while defining and encouraging the Filipino community at large. There will also be live performances, and an mini-market with local entrepreneurs.

THIS IS AN INCLUSIVE EVENT, OPEN FOR ANY AND ALL WHO ARE WILLING TO COME (INCLUDING NON-FILIPINOS)

IT’S FREE, JUST COME

* Take the subway line to Spadina station. From the station, walk south for 10 minutes on Spadina Avenue or take the Spadina southbound streetcar and get off at the Willcocks stop.

** If driving, take the Don Valley Parkway, exit Bloor St. Go west on Bloor until you hit Spadina, go south on Spadina until you hit Willcocks, William Doo Auditorium is in the New College Residence at the South East Corner of Spadina/Willcocks. You can find parking along any of the surrounding streets, street parking is free after 9pm.
